This topic is something that isn’t covered all that often. Most people have no idea what their undertone colors are, so I’m going to try and help you understand it and why it’s relevant to you.
Have you ever tested a top that came in more than one color and one made your skin or eye color totally pop, then the other made you look washed out? That’s because the one that made your eyes pop was probably the correct shade to go with your undertone. Everyone is either cool, warm, or neutral. One big mistake some make is that all fair women are cool, and all deep dark skin tones are warm. False! Want to know how to figure out your undertone and what colors you should stick with? Pull your sleeve up and look at the veins on your wrist. What color do they look like? If they are more blue tinted, then you are most likely cool. If they look more greenish, you’re probably warm toned. No, your veins are not actually green, but if you’re looking through warm toned skin into “blue” veins, yellow + blue make green.
2. The Sun
What happens when you go to the beach or lake? Do you burn and turn pink right away, or do you turn a warm golden-brown? Burning and turning pink usually leans more on the cool side, while the warm tones get that lovely golden brown tan.
3. Identify with a celeb
Cool toned celebs: Scarlett Johansen, Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz
Warm toned celebs: Beyonce, Jessica Alba, Jen Aniston, Kim K
So now that you’ve figured out what tone you are, on to the colors you should stick with.. so for my cool tone ladies out there you should be wearing blue, green, pink, purple, and true “blue based” reds. The lucky-to-tan warm toned ladies should focus on yellows, orange, brown, and warm reds. This goes for your makeup as well as clothing and accessories. For those wondering I’m cool toned, but I do tan easily!
