As some of you may know, I have been a professional makeup artist and licensed medical esthetician for going on 7 years now. So these posts come naturally to me when talking about beauty, especially skin and makeup. I, myself, tend to wear the minimum which is a little ironic, but it just fits my lifestyle for the most part. Now don’t get me wrong.. date nights and girls trips call for some glam that I can totally get in to. And by in to on the “girls” part it usually ends up with someone asking “Hey Randi, can you do my makeup? Or can you wand my hair like yours?” lol. I don’t mind it, but sometimes I end up having to rush my own trying to do everyone else’s! Oh well.
So on to the real topic of this post- summer beauty. When it comes to the heat (and by that I mean this humid, desert feeling Georgia heat) most of us want the bare minimum but still look put together. I get asked all the time what I do to my skin and what foundation am I wearing “it looks so natural”. Well, sometimes it is all natural because I’m running errands with a baby and these fake lashes and chapstick are all I’ve got going for me that day! Though that isn’t helping much I’ll give you guys the breakdown of the best summer skin and makeup secrets…
By exfoliating I’m not meaning the Clean & Clear microbeads 1-2x a week. You’ve got to get the dead and debris filled skin cells off in order for the new, fresh skin to be seen. This applies to the lips also, THIS is my favorite lip scrub. So here’s two options for your skin:
1. Is a home mix of olive oil + brown sugar. The oil is great for rehydrating in these hot months and the sugar is grainy enough to really sluff off the nitty gritty. An easy way to keep up with this is once per week mix this up (1 part oil, 3 parts sugar) and put it in a tuberware in your shower and use it 2-3x a week. Can be used on whole body, too.
2. I talked about this in my first skincare post, and going to keep talking about it until something else proves better. The Murad intensive peel. You can use it once per week or every other week. It works on sun damage and find lines as well, and is my favorite form of exfoliation.
#2 LESS IS MORE
In summer heat, makeup wants to run faster than Forrest! 🤷🏻♀️ Decide what’s most important and stick to those couple items instead of a full face. Usually one needs a concealer, some pressed powder, mascara, and some lip color. Use waterproof where possible! I’ve just ordered the Urban Decay Naked Concealer to see if it will compete with my fav NARS Creamy Concealer. I’ll update you guys if so! So I’ve been wearing under eye concealer, full face powder as my “foundation”, some bronzer, and lipgloss. That’s it! I do have my fake individual lashes so I don’t wear mascara except on the bottom when needed. If anyone is in the North Georgia area and wants some awesome lashes I can refer you!
#3 PREP + PRIME
I tell this to my clients all.the.time. Great, and long lasting makeup starts with freshly prepped skin. This includes a hydrating eye cream, a skin type specific moisturizer, and a skin mist (my all time favorite being MAC Fix + OR this one.). I’m sure putting creams on before going outside to get hot is probably the last thing you want to do, but trust me if you don’t your makeup doesn’t have any glue to hold on to. Even my oily skin clients I use THIS while prepping to keep the shine away. I also use the Fix + before, during, and after applying makeup because of all its different usages. It’s great for spritzing your beauty blender with before blending in creams, too.
All and all summer makeup can get tricky because let’s face it.. when you’re sweating and not getting inside anytime soon there isn’t a whole lot you can do when it comes to your hair and makeup. But you can at least try with these 3 tips to keep it looking fresh as long as possible! I’m linking some of the best (in my opinion) options for y’all to beat the heat.
I’m thinking about doing some video tutorials.. would anyone be interested? If so comment below on what you’d like to see!
