I told myself a few weeks before delivering Harlie that I would “reward” myself with a nice shopping spree once I got down to less than 10lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight. I had been saving my spare cash mid way through pregnancy because I pretty much gave up on the maternity clothing that was available. I instead just wore workout clothes and Justin’s hoodies 5 days a week and my scrubs to the clinic I work at the others. Since I wasn’t spending money on much clothing and such, I was able to save up a good bit!
Once I knew I was ready to use the money that was burning a hole in my pocket, I made a list of items I needed or wanted so I didn’t just spend it on things I didn’t really need. One of my favorite boutiques is our local DressUp Boutique. They have a great selection of comfortable but cute tops, dresses, and rompers. I knew there store would be my first stop. I was still breast feeding at the time when I was shopping, so I wanted to find tops that could be worn long after breast feeding but practical at the time. I found this navy top from there that was easily pulled to the side for Harlie, but didn’t look 100% mom-ish. They had several colors to choose from. I decided to pair it with my new shorts that I bought four colors in because they are SO comfortable, and they didn’t hurt my C-Section scar while I was still healing [currently on sale for $29.97!]. Lastly, I brought out my cheetah print clutch, and some cute but comfy wedges which are also available in more colors.
I ended up with what felt like a new spring and summer wardrobe since I chose carefully. Having new, fun, and bright colors in my closet has made me feel like a million bucks after what a woman’s body has to go through to have a child. I recommend lots of multi colored tops and dresses for those times baby decides she wants you to wear her spit up so it’s camouflaged!
Most of us don’t feel like dressing ourselves daily the first few months after baby, much less throwing on some type of heels, but I promise it will make you feel so much better about yourself! There would be days I would have nowhere to go or nothing to do, but I would still fix my hair and put on some makeup on and instantly feel happier. So buy those wedges you’ve been eyeing and said you would never actually wear, because life is short and a cute pair of shoes has never made anyone sad!
