In honor of the spring wedding season coming to an end, and our two year anniversary just a few weeks behind us, I thought I would share with you guys our honeymoon experience!
So first off, only a few people know the (not at the time, but now is) hilarious story about the beginning of our honeymoon. Our travel agent, Lauren Byers with Joyful Journeys, set us up with a buy 6, get the 7th night free trip. She took care of all the booking and scheduling which took some major weight off a bride-to-be’s to do list. Our Delta flight was scheduled for 9:50AM the day after our wedding, which was on a Friday- so flight was Saturday morning. Being the not so sober when we crashed on our wedding night couple, neither Justin nor myself remembered to set an alarm OR ask someone to take us to the airport. Big oops… Luckily, I woke up around 6:30AM to use the restroom and realized what we didn’t do. So I woke Justin up and called my mom to tell her we would be picking her up in like 45 minutes to drive us to the airport. She was not too thrilled, but also thought we had lost our minds because we didn’t plan a driver. Well, needless to say… we arrived at the airport about 75 minutes before our flight, but because it was our first international flight, we didn’t know we had to be checked in two hours before departure time- so we miss our flight! Talk about a meltdown? I was sobbing in Justin’s arms because we missed our flight to our honeymoon! There is only one flight a day to St. Lucia, so it wasn’t “just catch the next flight out” kinda deal. It also didn’t help that the customer service woman “helping” us out was very rude and had no sympathy. Looking back now, its funny but I would have never said that while it was happening. I was also glad that we didn’t lose out on any money since the 7th night was free, we just missed out on a free night stay.
We both periodically talk about how much fun we had on that trip and it always puts us in the best mood. I can’t praise Sandals Grand St. Lucian enough of their exceptional service and all around luxury. We stayed in the Rondoval Suites that included our own private pool and hot tub with an outdoor shower as well. We both agreed we will go back one year for another anniversary to try and repeat the fun we had.
I’ll link some similar items I wore or used while we were down there below.
Things we did:
1. JJ’s Boat Tour (my favorite by far)
This was about a 4-5 hour adventure that included a speed boat ride to downtown Castries, and on to a taxi ride to the top of the volcano. This is where we did a volcano mud bath followed by rinsing off under a waterfall. SO COOL! After that we went snorkeling on a small reef, then on to lunch at JJ’s house. What really threw us off, was they called for a pool party once everyone was finishing up their lunch! We also made some friends that I still keep up with today via Facebook.
2. Helicopter Transfer
We were told by some friends that had been to St. Lucia before of the dangerous areas you have to ride through when going from the airport to the resort. There is an option to upgrade to a helicopter transfer, and so that’s what we did. It was about a 15 minute ride vs a 1.5 hour car ride- so worth it! We got a much better view of the island, as well as getting rained on when going through the rain forest!
3. Butler’s Sunset Cruise
Since we were staying in a private villa, and our stay included a butler, we got invited to a complimentary sunset cruise one night with the other villa couples!
4. Candle light Dinner
One of the most romantic things I’ve ever done. Justin booked us a candle light dinner on the beach right by the water on our last night. It was like a 6-course meal with champagne included, and a personal waiter. It was so nice, we even came back to our villa afterwards with our bed covered in flower petals and a warm bath ready for us!
Where did you go for your honeymoon? Would you love to go back?
